Switzerland abandons people in danger as well

Just as the government in Great-Britain that will send both Mehdi Kazemi and Pegah Emambakhsh back to Iran where they life is in danger, the Switz’s made a similar decision. Anatole Zali, an eighteen year old boy from Cameroon will have to go back to his country, where he faces imprisonment because of his sexual orientation and where he got threatened by the police before. Amnesty International asks Switzerland to stick to the rules by not sending back any people whose life is in danger. I wonder how these people sleep at night…

Sally Kern rambling about gay people

Oh dear god. I just heard Sally Kern, a member of the Oklahoma state house of representatives, going crazy over gay people. But really, insanely crazy. She’s actually comparing us to cancer and terrorists. If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny. Watch the video here. As her articulation isn’t perfect, I wrote down what I could understand, because it would be too bad that you wouldn’t know what she said because of the bad sound quality. It’s really worth the effort… Please feel free to fill up the gaps or to send me corrections. Here’s what she said as far as I could understand, literally:

“The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation, ok? It’ just a fact. Not everybody’s lifestyle is equal, just like not all religions are equal. The very fact that I’m talking to you today like this, is because we are in jeopardy ok? I’m not anti, I’m not gay bashing, but according to gods word, that’s not the right kind of lifestyle, it has deadly consequences for those people involved in it, they have more suicides, they are more discouraged, there’s more illness, their lifespans are shorter, you know. It is not a lifestyle that is good for this nation, as a matter of fact, stats show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality, has lasted more than, you know, a few decades. It’s the death meal for this country. I honestly think it’s the biggest threat our nation has, even more so then terrorism or Islam. Because what’s happening know, they’re going after, in schools, 2 year olds! You know why they are trying to get early childhood education? They want to get our young children into the government schools so they can (?) them. (?) We are not teaching facts and knowledge anymore folks, we are teaching indoctrination, ok? And they are going after our young children, as young as 2 years of age, to try to teach them that homosexual lifestyle is an acceptable lifestyle. You know, gays are infiltrating city councils. (?) Have you heard that the city council of (?)’s friends is now controlled by gays? There are some others (?), a lot of other places in Florida, what’s happening, and they are winning elections. One of the things I deal with in our legislation, I tried to introduce a bill last year, that schools had to let to know the parents what clubs their students were involved in. And the reason I did that is that bill primarly was this, we had the gay straight alliance coming in to our schools, kids are getting involved in this groups, their lifes are being ruined, and their parents don’t know about it. So I introduced it so they have to let to know the parents all clubs they are involved in. and one of my colleagues said, you know, we don’t have a gay problem in (?), so that’s why I voted against that bill. And you know what, to me that is so dumb. If you’ve got cancer or something in your little toe, do you say “I’m just going to forget about it because the rest of you is fine”? It spreads! And this stuff, it’s deadly and it’s spreading and it will destroy our young people and it will destroy our nation.”

I would love to discuss this word by word, but I’ll stick to the most horrifying parts.

1: She says we are not all equal

2: “I’m not anti, I’m not gay bashing” This is just funny

3: “It has deadly consequences for those people involved in it, they have more suicides, they are more discouraged, there’s more illness, their lifespans are shorter, you know.” Yes, we do know. Do we get discouraged? Do we commit suicide more often? Why would we do that? In such a warm, welcoming society as yours? Are you kidding me? It is people like you who are the cause of this! And about shorter lifespans, sure, just read this blog and you’ll find some examples of why some gay people die way too soon…

4: Sally Kern actually believes we are bigger threat then terrorists. Sure.

5: She’s comparing gayness to cancer. What can I say about that? It’s almost as absurd as number 4.

Getting killed because you are gay… and nothing to do about it?

Two Iranian citizens will probably get send back to Iran, even though there life will be in danger if they arrive in their country. Mehdi Kazemi, only 19 years old, recently found out that his partner was executed because of his sexual orientation. Kazemi was studying in London at that time, and besides the horrible news of the death of his partner, he was told that he was on the black list now as well. The religious police is looking for him, and will execute him when they have the chance. Kazemi asked the government of Great Brittain if he could stay in their country, but they refused his request. Kazemi, knowing this was a death sentence, therefore went to Holland and asked for permission to stay there. Yet, because he already filed his request with Great Brittain, the rules say he should be send back over there. Another citizen of Iran, Pegah Emambakhsh, also had no other choice then to run away, after her partner was arrested because of her sexual orientation. Her partner will probably be executed by stoning. She also went to Great Brittain, but the government decided she had to go back to Iran just as Kazemi. According to the Brittish government, “Gay people who are discrete about their sexual orientation, are not being executed in Iran”. Doesn’t seem like that’s true though… And even if it was true, do people deserve to be killed because they tell someone about the love of their life? Do they deserve to be killed because they are walking hand in hand down the street?The Brittish will have to choose. Are they defenders of Human Rights? Do they believe we are all equal? Do they believe lgbt people deserve to live? Or do they choose to close their eyes for this horrible executions, and give the death sentence to two innocent people? 

Larry, 15 years old, murdered by Brandon for asking him to be his valentine

Boy, I will be glad when I don’t have stuff to write about anymore. But sadly enough, there are horrible stories from gay discrimination each and every day… In the US, Larry was killed by a boy from his class because he asked the other kid to be his valentine. Ellen Degeneres discussed the incident before her show and asked people to take it into consideration when deciding who to vote for… You can watch the video on Youtube. My thoughts are with Larry and his friends and family.

Mariano Rajoy: No gay adoption, no gay information in school

Mariano Rajoy, a spanish politician who is part of the conservative party, is promising to abandon gay adoption if he gets elected. Not only will he take away the right of lgbt people to have kids together, he also wants a change in the school lessons. He does not want any more information on lgbt people in class. Let’s hope the Spanish people are smarter then he is…

No gay marriage in Romania

The Romanian government is taking legal precautions to ban gay marriage. As the law is not gender specific right now, it might be interpretated as a possibility for gay marriage. Therefor, the politicians are now specifying this more closely. The ban will be there anytime soon.

Fred Phelps protests at memorial service Heath Ledger

Unbelievable. Fred Phelps and his clan from the Westboro Baptist Church went to Heath Ledger’s memorial service saying Heath “is in hell now” and that his tragic death was not an accident but a punishment for his role in Brokeback Mountain. Phelps said “you deceived the world with Brokeback Mountain acting like it is okay to be gay. It is not, it is the biggest sin against god (…). Everyone who has been tempted by Heath will burn in hell“. It is so rude, so totally inappropriate, I had a hard time even believing that this really happened, that there are really people who dare to go to someone’s memorial service and speak such hateful words. Besides that, Heath Ledger wasn’t even gay, he was just an actor playing in a movie… I wonder what they would say to people who actually are gay. I can’t imagine that there are people who believe they do “the right thing” by showing such disrespect at a memorial service. I am really shocked. If you look on their website you can see small kids with t-shirts saying “god hates fags” and with big boards “death penalty for fags”. I don’t even want to think about the internal battle they will have to face when they grow up and one of them turns out to be gay. Or their best friend is gay. Or their brother, or their own kids. Such brainwashing is absolutely unacceptable. And going to someone’s memorial service saying that his death is just what he deserves, is horrible. Actually, it’s worse then horrible. There’s not even a word that comes close to describing how bad that really is.

Cameroon: Lazare Baeeg, Emmanuel Balep and Tony Dikongue

Three men were sentenced to 6 months of hard labor, on the accusation of being gay, which apparently, could make you serve 5 years in prison in Cameroon. Alice Nkom is the loyer of Lazare Baeeg, Emmanuel Balep and Tony Dikongue and is planning to keep up her legal battle to get the men free. They already spent 6 months in prison. The international community that claims to see human rights as crucial should give a strong signal to Cameroon that this is unacceptable.

Huckabee discriminates gay people

Mike Huckabee, who wants to become the president of the United States, did some more gay bashing yesterday during an interview of Beliefnet. He stated that “Marriage has historically, as long as there’s been human history, meant a man and a woman in a relationship for life. Once we change that definition, then where does it go from there?…Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal. Again, once we change the definition, the door is open to change it again“. Okay, so let’s see if we understand this man’s logic. He claims gay people shouldn’t be allowed to marry, as then inevitably a man will be able to mary a child or an animal? That’s strange. So that second adaption would pass as a law without any trouble? The word “far fecthed” doesn’t even begin to describe this way of reasoning. The other argument that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to marry, is that in the old days, that didn’t happen either. Ok, so mister Huckabee doesn’t want anything to be different then in the very beginning of human life? I propose he then gives up electricity, the internet and his mobile phone as well. Things that didn’t used to be like that, and now do exist: that’s called “progress”.

Italy: A gay activist threatened

Marrazzo, the president of the Italian gay movement Arcigay, has been threatened to be killed because of his battle for equal rights. Let’s hope that he’ll be allright.
